Former St. Cloud Mayor's visitation to be held in City Hall
04/30/2013 - 11:50 AM
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - A former St. Cloud mayor who died last weekend will be the first mayor to lie in state who did not die in office.
A visitation for Al Loehr will be held at City Hall Wednesday. Loehr died Saturday at age 85. The St. Cloud Times reports Mayor Dave Kleis says Loehr's widow made the request. Loehr served as state commissioner of veterans affairs from 1965 to 1969.
Since 1900, only two other mayors have been so honored. Stearns County historical records show Mayor Phil Collignon was first to lie in state at City Hall in 1945 followed by Mayor Lawrence Borgert in 1953.
