Archived: A Sauk Rapids Man Injures A St. Cloud Hospital Member And Deputy While Being Treated

A man is facing multiple charges including assaulting a police officer and medical caregiver after struggling to cooperate with police and a hospital staff member.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says officers and deputies were attempting to arrest a man who was walking on Veteran’s Drive near 24th Avenue North Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, 26-year-old Shawn Thomas Iees of Sauk Rapids, had three outstanding warrants for his arrest. When spotting the police, Iees ran from them but was later caught and forced to the ground. He continued to fight with officers which led them to use a tazer on him.

Ambulance responded to the scene to check Iees’s conditions, and he was later taken to St. Cloud hospital by squad. While being treated by hospital staff, Shawn ran from them and the deputy on hand. A hospital staff member and the deputy were both injured in the struggle to contain Iees.

Iees is currently being held in the Stearns County Jail and facing multiple charges including assaulting an officer and medical caregiver.
