The Stearns County Sheriff’s department responded to a barn fire near New Munich Saturday evening.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says the fire broke out at 37257 Highway 237 in Oak Township around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Sanner said the flames were reported to have been coming out of the roof of the dairy barn owned by 81-year-old Luverne Hinnenkamp and rented by 39-year-old Kevin Bauer.

The barn housed 42 dairy cows. All animals were rescued from the barn.

One firefighter was taken to Melrose hospital after he was struck in the head by falling debris.
