Archived: Central Minnesota Issued Heat Advisory For Afternoon Heat and Severe Storms

Central Minnesota is expected to reach dangerous levels of heat today.

St. Cloud meteorology professor Bob Weisman says that a heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service. Afternoon temperatures in both central and southern Minnesota will reach low to mid 90’s and humidity levels of above 70%. This combination means heat index levels will be between 100 and 110 degrees.

Central Minnesota is also expected to receive storms from the north. These storms could be severe and could include large hail, heavy rainfall, and straight-line winds. The storms aren’t expected to arrive in the St. Cloud area until the early-morning hours tomorrow.

The heat advisory will be in progress from 1-8 p.m Wednesday. Outdoor activities are dangerous in this weather, and children and seniors should be left indoors.
