Archived: Chinese Artist And Master Sculptor Lei Yixin To Speak On SCSU Campus Wednesday

Sponsored by the SCSU School of Arts and the Community Anti-Racism Education initiative, Chinese artist and master sculptor Lei Yixin will be visiting the SCSU campus Wednesday.

Creator of the “Stone of Hope” sculpture in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington D.C., Yixin will educate the public about his work as a master sculptor and how he was selected to create the memorial’s 30-foot white granite centerpiece.

The centerpiece is based on the line “Out of a mountain of despair, a stone of hope”, which is taken from MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

This free talk will take place at Ruth Gant Hall in the Performing Arts Center at 4:30 p.m. and will end at 6:00 p.m.
