Community Ongoing Cultural Exchange
08/11/2009 - 11:25 AM
The International Friendship Program, a community-university partnership is inviting everyone in the community to participate. There are more than 1,100 students from more than 80 countries attending classes at St. Cloud State. International Student Adviser, Molly Hoffman said students appreciate the opportunity to experience the culture of the United States through personal relationships. New international students arriving in the fall will appreciate being matched up with a host family.
Being a host family only requires a willingness to include St. Cloud State students in activities already on your schedule, according to Hoffman. Activities could include joining you for meals, for family outings, attending your child's sports games, attending a family wedding, holiday celebrations, or fishing.
For those only interested in a one time cultural exchange, the Center for International Studies also organizes a Thanksgiving Program in which community members invite students to their homes to celebrate the holiday.
Information sessions for new and potential applicants will be held on Tuesday August 11th at 11AM, and Thursday August 13th at 5:30 PM. For more information on culture sharing programs and to apply, contact the SCSU Center for International Studies at 320-308-4287.
