Court Hearing For Smithers Continued
10/03/2012 - 10:30 AM
A juvenile court hearing scheduled Tuesday for 17-year-old Jesse Jean Smithers has been continued until next week at the request of his lawyer, who wanted more time to review his client's case file and prepare.
Smithers is currently being charged by juvenile petition with one count of murder in the second degree, one count of manslaughter in the first degree, and one count of assault in the first degree for allegedly throwing a deadly punch that killed Colton Gleason on September 20 in a south St. Cloud alley.
The Stearns County Attorney's office is pursuing a motion to certify Smithers to stand trial as an adult.
Smithers will be back in court on October 9 for the probable cause hearing, which is a required procedural hearing in the certification process.
