St. Cloud Police Sergeant Jason Burke says the Criminal Investigative Unit has completed their search into an alleged drive by shooting Tuesday.

21-year-old Dimitri Accardo reportedly said to police that he was the victim of the drive by.

Burke says evidence from the scene lead investigators to believe that Accardo suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left leg after he accidentally discharged the firearm in his left pants pocket.

Accardo was previously arrested in 2012 on charges of terroristic threats which he plead guilty to in 2014.

Burke adds that by state law, this case prohibits Accardo from having a firearm.

Investigators intend to forward the case to the Stearns County Attorney Office to have Accardo charged with illegally possessing a firearm.
