Extreme Fire Danger Today As Dry Weather Continues
10/01/2012 - 11:15 AM
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag fire danger warning this afternoon for much of central and western Minnesota including St. Cloud, Alexandria, Willmar, Mankato, Granite Falls, Fergus Falls, Mankato and Redwood Falls. The combination of high winds and dry ground makes for extreme fire danger.
St. Cloud State University meteorology Bob Weisman says this September was the second driest September on record. According to Weisman, St. Cloud received less than a quarter inch of rain. The average rainfall for September in St. Cloud is almost three and a half inches.
Weisman says there is a small chance for rain on Wednesday night into Thursday. The possible rain is a part of a cold front that will lower our temperatures into the lower 50s.
