Workers Get Into Fight On The Stearns County Jail Roof

A man working on the roof of the Stearns County Jail on Monday afternoon received a large cut on his forehead and lost a tooth after getting into a fight with another worker. The 23-year-old man and 45-year-old Warren Smith of St. Cloud started to fight after an argument had taken place.

During the fight the Smith reportedly struck the victim in the face with a rake used for spreading rocks. The victim received a three to four inch cut on his forehead and was treated on the scene by St. Cloud Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics. He refused further medical attention.

Smith was taken to the Stearns County Jail on a charge of second degree assault.

The re-roofing project is contracted through Horizon roofing, but according to Sheriff John Sanner, the two workers involved in the fight were contracted through temporary employment agency.

Officers learned the details of the fight from interviewing workers who had witnessed the fight.
