Archived: Highway 23 Bypass In Paynesville Opening On Friday

More than a month ahead of schedule the Highway 23 Bypass in Paynesville will be opening on Friday, July 20th. Crews will begin removing barricades to the entrances and exits at 9 a.m. and drivers will be able to access the road by noon, if weather is permitting.

The project originally wasn’t scheduled to be complete until August 30th, but with the mild winter allowing contractors to get an early start it helped put them ahead of schedule.

Drivers traveling east on Highway 23 will now access Paynesville on Veterans Drive, formerly known as First Street, and westbound access will remain the same.

Although the road will be open, there will be crews still working in that area. This work includes various touch-ups along the bypass, and the western end of old Highway 23 will be removed and converted to a cul-de-sac, however none of the remaining work should affect drivers.
