10/28/2013 - 10:00 AM
The human remains discovered Saturday have been identified by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner as Eden Prairie’s Mandy Matula. The body was found by a hiker in the Mississippi River Park, just north of Sartell.
Eden Prairie Police and the Ramsey County medical examiner’s office say early indication of autopsy reports show the 24-year-old Matula likely died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Mandy was last seen May 1, leaving her home in Eden Prairie with ex-boyfriend David Roe. Roe committed suicide the next day in his car in the Eden Prairie Police Department parking lot.
The Matula family knew the remains found over the weekend belonged to Mandy, even before the body was identified. The Matula family explained to WCCO Radio Sunday, the body found had a UMD softball sweatshirt and class ring that matched Mandy’s.
