Husky Kickoff 2009
08/12/2009 - 11:25 AM
We're just under two weeks away from the first day of classes at St. Cloud State, and arriving students can expect a number of special activities.
Students on campus next Thursday, August 20th will be personally welcomed into the community with the "neighborhood walk" from 5-7 pm. The walk is an opportunity for city and university officials to introduce themselves and answer questions for students.
Students moving into residence halls next Satuday and Sunday, August 22nd and 23rd... will get some "heavy lifting" assistance from more than 330 "Husky Haulers," a volunteer group of faculty, staff, athletes and fraternity members.
New students are asked to move in beginning at 8 am Saturday, while returning students living in residence halls will start moving in Sunday at 10 am.
Please be alerted that the streets of St. Cloud will be more congested than usual on the 22nd and 23rd as up to 3,000 students and their families will be arriving on campus.
Once on campus, students will be treated to a week of "Husky Kickoff" activities, including an ice cream social on August 23rd, a motivational speaker on August 25th, and an oven cooking contest on August 27th followed by a concert by Johnny Holm Band.
A new feature of Husky Kickoff this year is "House Party 101"... Tuesday, August 25th at the Atwood Memorial Center at 9 pm. This event is an interactive mock house party with students demonstrating how to make smart decisions around alcohol use and parties.
