Archived: Lake Wobegon Trail To Hold Ceremony and Bike Ride To Celebrate Completion of Trail Extension

A famous trail in central Minnesota has been extended, and a ceremony will be held next month to celebrate it.

Stearns County says that the 63-mile-long Lake Wobegon Trail has been extended from St. Joseph to River’s Edge Park in Waite Park. According to Stearns County Park Director Ben Anderson, work on the trail will continue, but will be completed within the next few weeks.

A grand opening ceremony will be held for the extension on Thursday, July 12 at 6 p.m in River’s Edge Park. There will also be a pre-celebration bike ride at the Lake Wobegon Trailhead in St. Joseph at 5:20 p.m. Riders interested in participating will need to bring their own bikes and helmet for the three-mile long ride.

The final connection into Waite Park comes during the 20th year of the trail’s storied existence.
