Archived: Minnesota Increases Fines For Speeding Through Work Zones

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will be warning drivers who speed through a work zone or who do not obey work zone flaggers will be fined $300 starting Friday.

This new law, passed during the 2014 state legislative session, is designed to provide extra protection to those working on Minnesota’s road and help the state reach its goal Towards Zero Deaths (TZD).

State traffic engineer Sue Groth says the newly increased fine will hopefully draw attention of motorists to slow down when driving through work zones.

In addition to the increase in fines law passed by the state legislature, MnDOT is also required to study all two-lane highways during the next five years and decided if raising the speed limit from 55 to 60 miles per hour would be appropriate.
