The Minnesota State Patrol was extra busy this St. Patrick’s Day weekend as they arrested just shy of 500 people for driving while intoxicated.
Sergeant of the Minnesota State Patrol Jesse Grabow says that preliminary reports counted 420 DWI arrests as of 9 a.m. Monday with an additional 75 arrests between 9 a.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety says, the number will rise as more information is submitted. Grabow added that alcohol-related crashes account for one-third of the state’s total traffic deaths.
There have been 58 traffic deaths to-date this year.
