Archived: Minnesota State Patrol Will Increase DWI Enforcement Through Holidays On Minnesota Highways

It’s the holiday season and that means Minnesota law enforcement is stepping up patrols for drunk drivers. State Troopers, deputies and officers plan to crack down with increased D-W-I enforcement throughout the state.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol nearly 30,000 Minnesota motorists are arrested each year. 104 people were killed on Minnesota roads last year alone from drunk driving.

Some tips offered from troopers to avoid impaired driving are to always plan ahead and designate a sober driver, use public transportation or a taxi and always buckle up as it’s the best defense against a drunk driver. Each year 75 percent of drunk drivers killed are not wearing their seat belts.

Sergeant Curt Mowers of the Minnesota State Patrol says the DWI enforcement will be increased on December 19-21 and continue December 26-28.

The enhanced DWI enforcement campaign is part of the State’s Toward Zero Death Campaign and the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
