Archived: MPCA Seeks Comments on Report

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is asking for comments on a water quality improvement report for parts of the Elk River watershed in Benton and Sherburne counties. The report focus is on Mayhew Lake, Big Elk Lake, Elk River and targets pollution caused by excess phosphorus, bacteria and turbidity.

The report, known as the Total Maximum Daily Load report is part of a nationwide effort under the federal Clean Water Act to identify and clean up pollution in streams, rivers, and lakes. After receiving comments the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will revise the report and submit it to the Environmental Protection Agency for approval.
