Archived: New Minnesota Law For Testing Homes For Radon Gas

A new law, the Minnesota Radon Awareness Act, goes into effect this January. The law will require detailed radon testing during home inspections before the home can be sold.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and Stearns County wants to inform the public on the preventative measures against the dangerous gas.

State Representative Paul Anderson will be hosting the town hall meetings.

The public meetings will begin November 21 in Glenwood. Melrose and Sauk Centre will also have meetings on November 26.

Stearns County is identified as having relatively high levels of radon because of the large amount of granite.

Testing for radon is important because the gas is odorless, colorless and tasteless. 21,000 deaths a year in the U.S. are attributed to lung cancer caused by radon gas.
