Archived: October 11th National Coming Out Day

This Thursday is National Coming Out Day. SCSU President Earl H. Potter III sent out a proclamation to SCSU faculty and students where he says that the vision of SCSU is to positively transform students and the communities where they live and work through the active discovery, applied knowledge and creative interaction. He also says that in order to enhance diversity, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered people and allies must feel secure enough about the environment to be visible and unthreatened.

National Coming Out Day is part of LGBT History Month. As part of the LGBT History month the SCSU LGBT resource center is hosting multiple events throughout the month including a safe space training event which is designed to educate people who serve the general student population and build a network of allies across campus who are knowledgeable and supportive of the LGBT community. On October 18th, KVSC will also be presenting Hip Hop Against Homophobia, a concert that will be held on the Atwood Mall. Also, later in the month, “Does God Really Hate Queer People?” will be shown at the Atwood Theatre.
