Possible Record High Temperatures Through Tuesday
08/26/2013 - 1:10 AM
The dog days of August are upon us and that means scorching summer temperatures and tropical-like dew points.
SCSU Meteorology Professor Bob Weisman says the St. Cloud area will be under a heat advisory through midnight Tuesday. Weisman predicts slightly higher temperatures today [Monday] since there are fewer clouds and showers expected, with highs in the middle 90’s and oppressive humidity. Today [Monday] there will be widespread daily record temperatures throughout Minnesota.
Weisman expects a weak front approaching from the South Monday night. The high dew points and low winds will produce widespread heat indices of 100-110 degrees.
Over the weekend, St. Cloud broke its record for daily high temperature at 94 degrees. The previous record high of 93 degrees stood since 1937.
Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the U.S. Seniors and children are the most vulnerable to the heat, so try and keep them indoors during afternoon and early evening hours. Keep strenuous exercise for early morning hours, even for a healthy adult.
