Rail Service from St. Cloud to Minneapolis Might Become Reality
08/04/2009 - 10:15 AM
The Minnesota Department of Transportation is applying for a $150 million grant that would cover the design and construction of an extension of the North Star Commuter rail line from Minneapolis to St. Cloud. Current funding allows the line to run from Minneapolis to Big Lake, about 30 miles southeast of St. Cloud. But if this grant is approved by federal officials, it would revive the original plan for the rail service to run from Minneapolis to St. Cloud.
The Big Lake-Minneapolis link, the state's first commuter rail line, is scheduled to begin operating later this year.
