SCSU Reports Most Sexual Assaults since '98-'99
09/05/2009 - 10:20 AM
32 sexual assaults were reported to the St. Cloud State Women’s Center between the summer of 2008 and the summer of 2009. That’s 13 more sexual assaults than last year’s total, and the most reported at St. Cloud State in ten years.
In all 32 of the assaults, the perpetrators were men. Nine of the assaults happened on campus, 23 took place off campus. 26 of the assaults were committed by acquaintances of the victim, and three were committed by strangers. 31 of the victims were women and one was a man.
The SCSU Women’s Center says while the increase in sexual assaults is disheartening, it is a good thing that more victims are reporting assaults. For more information on sexual assault prevention education, visit SCSU's Gender Violence Resources Office web page.
