Archived: SCSU Students Vote Yes For Athletics Fee In Fall Elections

After controversy surrounding the St. Cloud State fall elections, SCSU student government announced Thursday, the athletic fee was passed by students.

The athletic fee continues to fund the athletic department through a portion of student fees. 77-percent of voters were in favor of renewing student fees to the athletic department.

According to Jeff Wood with University Communications at St. Cloud State, the passing of the referendum could raise $495,000 a year for four years benefiting Husky Athletics.

The results from the December 2-4 elections were released a week later due to an election investigation by a student committee.

Student Government President Eric Peterson says he’s confident that releasing the fall election results is the right thing to do for the student body.

The students also voted yes for bringing back Homecoming and adding a winter Homecoming for SCSU Hockey.
