Archived: Sentence To Services Fees Dropped For Worksites

Worksites that use Sentencing to Service crews will no longer be charged a $100 fee. The Stearns County Board of Commissioners voted to eliminate the fee through 2013, leaving it open for discussion in another year.

Sentence to Service is an alternative to jail or fines, allowing clients to re-pay the public through community service work such as landscaping or building projects. The work must be completed at a non-profit or government organization such as a school or a township.

There are over 300 of these sites in Stearns County and most of the work is done for the cities. The $100 fee was initially established in early 2012.

But instead of that fee a $230 fee will be charged to the clients who use the program, rather than charging the worksite.
