Archived: September Is National Preparedness Month

Get ready Stearns County because it is National Preparedness Month. Flooding, winter storms, power outages and tornadoes are just some of the disaster threats faced by Stearns County residents. But preparing ahead of time can help save lives, protect property and speed up the pace of recovery.

September is National Preparedness Month and there are a few simple steps to prepare for what potential disasters and emergencies can bring.

Those steps are: Be informed, know the hazards and risks in your area. Make a family emergency plan, so you know how you would communicate with your loved ones if something did happen. You can also put together a disaster supply kit for both your home and car. Lastly, get involved with your community. Find out how you can promote preparedness within your community.
