Dean Allan Friese was charged Tuesday in Stearns County District Court with murder in the second degree for the stabbing death of his mother.
Judge Kris Davick-Halfen set the defendant’s bail at $3 million unconditional and $1.5 million with conditions.
According to the St. Cloud Police, 72-year-old Lois Arlene Omeara was found lying on the floor of Friese’s apartment with stab wounds to her chest. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries.
Law enforcement says the 52-year-old defendant from St. Cloud acknowledged that he thought about killing his mother prior to the alleged homicide. According to the defendant’s statement to investigators, Friese pulled a medical alarm in his apartment knowing the victim would respond. After triggering the alarm he retrieved a knife from the kitchen, allegedly stabbing the victim when she entered the apartment. Lois Omeara was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dean Friese is currently being held in the Stearns County Jail. His next court hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1st 1:30 p.m. at the Stearns County Courthouse.
