Archived: St. Cloud Man Drowns In Sauk River

A 56-year-old St. Cloud man has died after he was pulled out of the Sauk River Sunday afternoon.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says the St. Cloud Police Department received a 9-1-1 call at about 12:45 yesterday afternoon stating a man was found in the river.

When rescue crews arrived the man had already been pulled to shore, but was unresponsive.

Officers from the St. Cloud Police Department, members of the St. Cloud Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance made attempts to resuscitate him, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Sanner says the victim had been with friends in an apartment complex when he had left to go walking in the river. Police say the man had been seen swimming and diving in the shallow water, but no one had witnessed the drowning.

The victim’s name has not been released. No foul play is suspected.
