Archived: St. Cloud Man Facing Assault Charges After Pointing Gun At Two Victims

A St. Cloud man is facing 2nd degree assault charges after allegedly pointing an engaged handgun at two victims who were biking past his home Saturday afternoon.

St. Cloud police sergeant Jason Burke says a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were biking from the Boys and Girls club while they passed the home of 38-year-old Scott Richard Soyka at the 300 Block of 30th Ave North.

Burke says the victims allege that Soyka pointed a handgun and engaged the firearm. Having a current permit to carry, Soyka told police he felt threatened by the two bikers and admitted having the firearm ready and out of the holster.

Soyka is currently being held at the Stearns County jail and facing charges of 2nd degree assault from information gathered during the investigation and witness’ statements.

Burke adds that the report will be forwarded to the Stearns County Sheriff Department, who are the issuing agency for the permit to carry, for further review on the case.
