Archived: Staples Woman Injured After Man Grabs Purse at Crossroads Macy’s

A 70-year-old woman from Staples was injured after a man tried to grab her purse as she entered the Macy’s department store in the Crossroads Mall Sunday.

St. Cloud police are just now revealing the details of what happened. Shortly before 5 p.m. police were called and learned the woman entered the north doors of Macy’s and was followed by a man, who was alone. Once she got inside, the man grabbed the victim’s purse, which was hung over her shoulder. The victim fell down during the altercation and she was dragged by the assailant, with the purse still on her shoulder. He kicked the woman was able to steal her purse and run toward the Target parking lot.

At the same time, police say a 23-year-old witness saw what happened and she briefly chased the suspect. He dropped the purse.

The suspect is described as a white man, 16 to 18-years-old, 5’9” tall with a heavy build.

The victim was treated by Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics at the scene. The public is asked to share any information on this assault and robbery attempt by called 251-251-1200 or visit Tri County Crime Stoppers.
