Stearns County Board Approves Layoff Notices
10/08/2013 - 2:15 AM
As a result of the government shutdown the Stearns County Board of Commissioners approved sending out of lay-off notices to county employees Tuesday.
If the government shutdown continues for a period of time, programs in the Human Services Department, such as Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), will be affected.
According to the Stearns County Administration Center, management will meet Wednesday morning to review federal funding sources and decide what programs are at risk to lose funding. Letters will be sent out to laid-off county employees this week.
The County’s union contract require employees are given a 30-day lay-off notice. If the government shutdown ends before 30 days, no lay-offs will happen.
