Archived: Stearns County Commissioners Award Bids For Law Enforcement Center Remodel

County Commissioners Tuesday approved $2.7 million in bids to construction contractors for the remodeling of the Stearns County Law Enforcement Center.

According to Stearns County officials, the remodel is needed for safety and security reasons.

The project will expand the booking area, to make it safer to accommodate the 8,000-9,000 bookings completed by law enforcement each year. The county says the plan also includes the addition of 9 more cells for male inmates and 11 more more cells for female inmates.

In all, the total estimated construction cost for the remodel is $5.1 million.

Construction of the Stearns County Law Enforcement Center will begin this January and is estimated to be completed in early 2015.
