Archived: Stearns County Is Looking For Veterans To Help Mentor Fellow Veterans

The Stearns County Veterans Protocol Team is expanding to recruit new mentors for other veterans.

Veterans Service Officer Cory Vaske says the program is looking for veterans to help those who may have been charged in court with a mental health or substance related offense. The program provides an alternative court process to veterans whose military experiences may have contributed to their legal problems.

The purpose for mentors is to give a positive social connection with fellow veterans and help make great changes. No legal experience is needed, just a drive to help a fellow veteran. Mentors are expected to make weekly contact with assigned veterans through a phone call or an in-person meeting.

To become a mentor you can contact Cory Vaske at (320)-656-6176 or email at vetbenefits@co.stearns.mn.us . Initial mentor training is scheduled for Wednesday, May 16 through Independent Lifestyles in Sauk Rapids.
