Archived: Stearns County Jail Completes Phase One Of Remodeling Project

Stearns County Jail has completed phase one of its $5.1 million remodeling project.

Sheriff John Sanner says the first floor of the Law Enforcement Center has been reconstructed to make better use of the female housing unit and work release inmates, both of which were previously located on the second floor.

Sanner adds that the first floor relocation will reduce the need to pay for moving women to jails in other counties.

Crews are now beginning phase two, which involves remodeling the second floor.

The project is a temporary short-term, 10-year fix of overcrowding and safety and security concerns in the building.

Stearns County will now focus on finding a long-term, 30-year solution.
