Archived: Stearns County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Phone Scam Involving IRS Employee

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning of a phone scam involving someone claiming to be from the IRS and Sterns County Sheriff’s Office demanding money for back taxes.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says they received several complaints from residents who say they received a call from someone who stated that they were an IRS employee working with a Stearns County Investigator.

The caller demands payment or else a deputy will come to arrest the resident. In some cases the caller ID even shows that call is coming from the sheriff’s office.

Stearns County Sheriff’s Office recommends that anyone who receives a call like this hang up immediately and not give any personal information to the caller.
