Archived: Two Vehicle Rollovers Reported Hours Apart in Stearns County Monday Night

There were two separate accidents involving vehicle rollovers in Stearns County Monday night.

Sheriff Don Gudmundson says deputies were first called shortly after 5 p.m. to an area just north of the intersection of Sand Lake Road and County Road 40 a few miles south of Albany.

Deputies found a pick-up truck on its roof in a corn field. A 16-year-old girl from Freeport was driving when she lost control of the truck on gravel, over corrected and rolled the pick-up. The girl was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for her injuries.

Just after 10 p.m. deputies were called to County Road 142 in St. Augusta township for another accident. They found a car in corn field that had rolled as well. It was driven by 24-year-old Spencer Lawrence Phillips of Litchfield.

He told deputies he swerved to avoid a deer, over-corrected, left the road and rolled once. He was wearing his seat belt and did not need medical attention. His vehicle was a total loss in the accident.
