Archived: Waite Park Police Chase Reaches Speeds Of 90 MPH

A Monday night car chase in Waite Park led to an arrest in St. Cloud.

Waite Park Police say just before midnight, officers noticed an SUV driving with its bright lights on. The officer flashed their lights and the SUV slowed for a red light on Highway 23 but then drove through it. Officers followed the car to St. Cloud reaching speeds of 90 miles-per-hour. The SUV also hit the Hanson Flooring building on Osseo Avenue, causing minor damage.

The driver was stopped when one officer performed a PIT maneuver. Officers were then able to arrest 31-year-old Scott Solon Schaefer-Bonovsky of St. Cloud. Schaefer-Bonovsky admitted to taking methamphetamines and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital.

Schaefer-Bonovsky is currently being held in the Stearns County Jail on charge of felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle, 4th degree controlled substance DWI, driving after revocation and a controlled substance felony warrant.
