Archived: Whooping Cough Cases On The Rise In Minnesota

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have targeted five states as a concern and focal point for Whooping Cough, and Minnesota is one of them.

As of June there have been 1,241 reported whooping cough cases in Minnesota. Whooping Cough is a serious disease that can be deadly, especially for infants and young children. It’s important that children receive the recommended vaccines on time in order to be protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.It is also important for teens and adults, especially pregnant women, to get a whooping cough booster shot, if they have not had one yet.

Nationwide, there have been more than 16,000 reported cases of whooping cough and 10 deaths in children.  This is twice as many cases as reported in the same tim period last year.

Along with Minnesota, Wisconsen, New York, Washington and Pennsylvania were also targted as a concern and focal point for whooping cough.
