Wind Advisory for Late Evening; Increases Fire Spread Risk

10/04/2012 - 9:30 AM

According to St. Cloud State UniversityMeteorology professor Bob Weisman, a wind advisory has been issued for western and central Minnesota through 10 p.m. tonight. This is due to west to northwest winds that will be blowing at speeds of 20-40 miles per hour, hard enough to shove a vehicle across a cross road.

The winds, along with 40 degree temperatures, will produce wind chills around freezing. However, they will not produce snow and rain for central and south Minnesota. The winds will also increase potential for fire spread as dry weather continues.

Because of this, all open burning within St. Cloud has been prohibited until weather conditions are favorable. Grilling is allowed, although Weisman says people need to be careful when doing so.
