A man accused of fleeing police and causing a crash that killed two people has been sentenced to 36 years in prison. Timothy Gilles (GIHL'-eez) is accused of speeding away from St. Cloud police and crashing into a vehicle April 15, 2011.
The crash killed 30-year-old Timothy Casanova of Starbuck. His passenger, 22-year-old Megan Thomsen of Glenwood, was pregnant and gave birth after the crash to a baby that died days after his emergency delivery. Thomsen was also injured.
WCCO-TV reports Judge John Scherer sentenced Gilles on Thursday to 432 months in prison. He had pleaded guilty to two counts of fleeing police in a car resulting in death and one count of fleeing police in a car resulting in great bodily harm.

A St. Cloud man is in jail after being arrested on felony theft charges. At about noon on Tuesday, St. Cloud Police were called to the 10 block of 7th Avenue South for a theft. Investigation found that 20-year-old Billy Joe Sinclair ran out of a business with a large display case of merchandise. The value of the merchandise was estimated to be over five-thousand dollars. The display case and most of the merchandise inside were found near the business.
Sinclair was found in the 1300 block of West St. Germain St where he was arrested and the remainder of the stolen merchandise was found.

St. Cloud Police arrested an 18-year-old St. Cloud man after an assault in downtown St. Cloud early Thursday morning. Just after midnight, police arrested Dominic Michael Bratcher after he allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old in the 100 block of 6th Avenue South. The victim received substantial but non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Bratcher was arrested for 3rd Degree assault and minor consumption. He is being held for court in the Stearns County Jail.

St. Cloud Police were called to the 1000 block of 22nd Avenue north early Thursday morning for an attempted burglary. The suspect or suspects entered an unlocked car and used the garage door opener to open the garage and enter the home. The 23-year-old and 45-year-old female residents were asleep but were awoken to their dogs barking. According to police report, the dogs may have scared the burglar or burglars away. No items were stolen.

St. Cloud Police are looking for a stolen motorcycle. At 10:30 p.m. on Sunday police were called to the 1500 block of 9th Avenue to meet with the victim of the stolen motorcycle.
The motorcycle was a 2007 Suzuki racer that was red, white and black in color which had been parked in front of the apartment building. The victim stated that the motorcycle was stolen between 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The management of the property viewed surveillance footage which showed a gold Windstar van drive up next to the motorcycle around 8:00 p.m. and two black men got out of the van and then put the motorcycle in the back of the van.

Stearns county is selling more than 200 vacant lots in an auction-style sale this Monday, June 18. The lots were given up for non-payment of taxes.
There are spaces up for auction in Sauk Centre, Melrose, St. Stephen, Rockville, Clearwater, Sartell, and St. Cloud, including some properties in the Sauk River Estates development in the St. Cloud Westwood area, Quarry Woods and Sommersby in south St. Cloud.
County Auditor-Treasurer Randy Schreifels says that there are many prime lots for sale. The auction will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the Stearns County Service Center in Waite Park.

St. Cloud Police were called to the 400 block of 15h Avenue Southeast Monday morning for a physical domestic assault.
25-year-old Deandre Donell Burges from St. Cloud was arrested for domestic assault and due to his prior convictions the charge was enhanced to a felony. Burges was taken to the Benton County Jail where he is being held for court.
The victim suffered minor injuries and refused medical treatment

One Monday morning St. Cloud Police were called to the 3600 block of West St. Germain for a burglary.
According to the police report sometime between 11 a.m. on Friday and 6 a.m. on Monday the unknown suspects had pried open the service doors to several buildings on the property and stole electrical cords and other property.
A window to a third building was also broken but it seems that no entry was made. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 251-1200.

A community notification meeting that was scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 14th to discuss a level three sex offender moving into a St. Cloud neighborhood has been cancelled. As previously reported, 52-year-old Marvin Smith was supposed to move into the 500 block of 9th Avenue North last week. According to the St. Cloud police it was found out that Smith did not and will not be moving into St. Cloud. Smith did not check-in with local law enforcement when his plans had changed.
A level three sex offender is one that is most likely to be a repeat offender. Sex offenders are required by the Community Notification Act to register with local law enforcement when they move. Law enforcement officials hold public meetings to help reduce the risk of re-offending and to keep the public informed.

Summertime by George is set to start this Wednesday, June 13 and Metro Bus will offer free trolley rides from downtown to Lake George. It will loop from the River’s Edge Convention Center to Lake George every ten minutes. The trolley will run from 5 to 9:25 p.m. every Wednesday from starting June 13 and ending August 29. The Trolley rides will help accommodate for the limited parking near Lake George. The trolley is sponsored by MCI Carpet One Floor & Home.
Summertime by George is a free 12-week event put on by the St. Cloud Rotary every Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Beatles Tribute band The Revolution 5 will kick off the event Wednesday and there will also be a petting zoo and a variety of food options.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office responded to County Road two yesterday in Luxemborg Township for a crash involving a semi-truck. Watkins Fire Department, Watkins Ambulance and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the crash.
Officers learned that 30-year-old Mike Allen Litzau was traveling south on County Road 2 while driving the semi-truck. His trailer was struck from behind by another vehicle driven by 34-year-old Daniel Harold Hokanson.
Hokanson needed to be extricated from his vehicle by the Watkins Fire Department and was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by a Minnesota State Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspector.
The accident remains under investigation by the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office.

St. Cloud Police are looking for two suspects who robbed two men at gunpoint Friday night. Around 11:30 p.m. officers were called to the 1000 block of 7th Avenue for the armed robbery. Officers met with the two victims, a 23 and a 22 year old both from St. Cloud.
The men say they were robbed at gunpoint by two black men in their early twenties wearing black hooded sweatshirts and their hoods up. They also describe the handgun as being silver in color. Cash and other property were taken from one of the men and the two suspects fled the scene.
There were no injuries. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 320-251-1200.

St. Cloud Police were called to the 1600 block of University Drive Southeast Sunday night for a burglary. Officers met with the 30-year-old victim from St Cloud who said that sometime between 10 p.m. on Friday night and 6 p.m. on Sunday night his residence had been burglarized.
Multiple electronics were stolen as well as two flat screen TV’s. A small safe including personal items and clothing were also taken. Anyone with information should contact police at 251-1200.

On Sunday afternoon St. Cloud Police were called to the 300 block of 9th Avenue South for a burglary. According to the police report the incident happened after 1 a.m. that morning when numerous people were kicked out of the residence after a party.
The exterior door was unlocked and electronics from inside were stolen. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 251-1200.

A St. Cloud resident was arrested on Friday evening for assaulting an officer. 25-year-old Codey James Weitzel was arrested after the St. Cloud Police responded to an assault complaint. When the officers met with Weitzel he began fighting with the officers and kicked one of them in the chest several times.
He was arrested and transported to the St. Cloud hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Weitzel will be held at the Stearns County jail for obstructing the legal process, misdemeanor 5th degree assault, and 4th degree assault.Page [ << 161 162 163 164 165 166 167 168 169 170 >> ]
