25th Ave North Closed At Highway 23 Intersection

Starting today 25th Avenue North will be closed at the intersection of Highway 23. The eastbound left-turn lane at 25th Avenue will be closed as well. Local traffic may access the businesses from the north.

These closures are expected to last until this Friday.

Police Respond To Domestic Assault Call

Earlier this morning St. Cloud Police were called to the 10th block of Park Avenue South for a domestic assault complaint. According to the police report, 23-year-old Justin Jerome Fischer of Princeton was arrested for felony domestic assault.

The victim, a 23-year-old from Princeton was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the St. Cloud Hospital. Fischer is being held in the Stearns County Jail on felony domestic charges.

25th Ave And 2nd St. S. Reduced To 4-Way-Flash Stop

Starting tomorrow the traffic signal at 25th Avenue South and 2nd Street South will be on a 4-way flash stop from 9 a.m. until about 3 p.m.

During this time modifications will be made to the traffic signal. Drivers are asked to expect delays and are encouraged to find an alternate route.

20 Foot Concrete Chunk Fell Off SCSU Walk Bridge

On Friday night St. Cloud Police were called to University Drive near the SCSU walk bridge. A 20 foot chunk of concrete had fallen off the walk bridge and landed onto University Drive.

After assessing the walk bridge, University Drive from 5th Avenue to Kilian Boulevard had been closed to through traffic and drivers were asked to find alternate routes.

No vehicles or pedestrians were stuck when the concrete fell and the road was re-opened.

Stearns County Annual Photo Contest Kicks Off

Stearns County is calling all photographers for its 3rd annual summer photo contest. The theme for this year’s contest is “Celebrations”. Stearns County wants its residents to send them pictures of their celebrations.

There will be prizes for the top three photos and all photos submitted will be displayed in the County’s online photo gallery.  Images will be judged on creativity, originality, photo content and relevance to the "Celebrations" theme.  

The top photos, as well as some others, will get special recognition and will be featured on the home page of Stearns County's web site and also will be displayed in the Stearns County Administration Center rotunda.  To submit a photo click here.

 

St. Cloud Police Respond To Accident On 2nd St South

On Wednesday night St. Cloud Police were called to 2nd Street South near 29th Avenue South for an accident with injuries. A police investigation revealed that 26-year-old Adam Charles Ramsey from St. Cloud had been looking at his cell phone and did not see the vehicle in front of him slow down with traffic. Both drivers were headed East on 2nd Street south.

Ramsey was treated on scene by Gold Cross for minor injuries and a passenger from Ramsey’s vehicle, 25-year-old Aletha Rose Hartley from St. Cloud was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, 61-year-old Irene Phyllis Diedrish from St. Cloud reported no injuries at the time of the accident. The cars were towed at the scene and Ramsey was cited for inattentive driving and for having an expired driver’s license.

The St. Cloud Police Department was assisted by the St. Cloud Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance.

Police Respond To A Burglary

On Thursday night St. Cloud Police were called to the 1000 block of 36th Avenue North for a burglary. According to the police report sometime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. someone had entered an unlocked residence from the back and stole a large amount of money and change from the residence.

Officers found nothing of evidentiary value at the scene and have no suspects or witnesses at this time.

Founder Of Leighton Broadcasting, Al Leighton, Passes Away At 86

The founder of Leighton Broadcasting, Al Leighton, passed away this Thursday morning according to social media posts from Leighton Broadcasting employees.

86-year-old Leighton started his broadcasting company in 1963 with the station KDLM-AM in Detroit Lakes. He owned stations in Iowa, North Dakota, Texas, and Minnesota, including four stations here in St. Cloud.

Leighton was a World War II veteran and survived by his wife Jean and many children and grandchildren.

Two Daytime Burglaries Reported In Waite Park

Waite Park has experienced two day time residential burglaries in the city in the past week. The first burglary happened on Friday at the 1100 block of Ashwood Court sometime between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Rifles and electronic items were reported stolen.

The second burglary happened on Sunday sometime between 7 a.m. and 3:50 p.m. at the 2100 block of County Road 6. Shop tools and cash were reported stolen.

Residents are reminded to take precautions to secure their home and property.

Anyone with information regarding these two burglaries is asked to contact Waite Park Police at 251-3281.

Police Respond To Gun Complaint

On Monday night St. Cloud Police were called to the 200 block of 3rd Avenue Northeast for a gun complaint. According to the police report 38-year-old Robert Lee Wolbeck had pushed his way into the residence and attempted to assault a 52-year-old from St. Cloud with a baseball bat.

The victim was not injured during the time of the incident but it appeared Wolbeck may have sustained an injury to his head from a fight that had occurred inside the kitchen. Wolbeck fled the scene prior to the officer’s arrival.

Heat Advisory Issued In MN: St. Cloud Not Included

SCSU Meteorology Professor Bob Weisman tells us there is both a heat and air pollution advisory out for the Twin Cities, the Minnesota River Valley, and southern Minnesota today.

While St. Cloud, Willmar, Monticello and areas north are not in these advisories expect sultry and fairly dirty air conditions that can cause problems for seniors, kids and people with a history of breathing or heart problems.

Try and limit afternoon outdoor exposure as these advisories and conditions are only set to last until the early evening hours. For more of Bob’s forecast click here

Highway 23 Road Construction

Starting tomorrow morning drivers travelling on Highway 23 between Foley and Ogilvie will encounter delays. Segments of the road will be reduced to a single lane with flaggers and pilot cars controlling traffic seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Crews will reduce up to four miles of Highway 23 to a single lane at a time as crews resurface each segment of the road. The project will be completed by mid-July.

All residences and businesses will remain accessible during the project.

Three Men Arrested For Multiple Charges At A Bar

Around 2 a.m. on Sunday St. Cloud Police officers were at 5th Avenue and Mall Germain monitoring the bar crowd when a disorderly man was escorted from the bar. When officers attempted to take the man into custody he began to resist and there was a short struggle. During the incident an unknown person threw a beer bottle from the crowd and hit an officer in the face. The officer was treated and released from the St. Cloud Hospital.

Several members of the crowd interfered as officers tried to make the arrest and three men were arrested. 39-year-old Michael Wallace Johnson Junior of St. Cloud, 18-year-old Michael Wallace Johnson the third of St. Cloud and 40-year-old Kevin Scuefield from St. Cloud were all arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing the legal justice. Johnson the third was also arrested for minor consumption and Johnson Junior was arrested for a gross misdemeanor obstructing legal process.

All three men were taken to the Stearns County Jail and anyone with information as to who threw the bottle at the police officer is asked to contact police at 251-1200.

Party Bus Driver Robbed At Gunpoint

Early Sunday Morning St. Cloud Police were called to the area of 1st Street North and 5th Avenue North for an armed robbery that had just occurred. A 39-year-old man from St. Paul was the driver for a party bus and was sitting on the steps of the bus waiting for his passengers to return when a black man approached him and pointed a black handgun at his face and demanded money.

The victim gave the suspect a $50 and the man put the weapon in his sweatshirt pocket and walked away. The man was described as someone in their mid-30’s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build and had a thin black goatee and a mustache. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and black pants. Officers had checked the area and did not locate anyone matching that description.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 251-1200.
