Ribbon Cutting Ceremony For The Highway 23 Paynesville Bypass On Thursday

In celebration of the completion of the Highway 23 Paynesville Bypass the city of Paynesville will host a ribbon cutting event on Thursday, August 23rd.

The new bypass opened on Friday, July 20th more than a month ahead of schedule. Drivers traveling east on Highway 23 now access Paynesville on Veterans Drive and westbound access remains the same. The Highway 23 Paynesville Bypass will improve mobility and safety for drivers travelling along the Highway 23 corridor and allows Highway 23 to remain an important connection between Willmar and St. Cloud.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will start at 11 a.m. at the Paynesville American Legion which is located at 770 W. Business Highway 23. 

Multiple St. Cloud Roads Experiencing Lane Reductions Starting Wednesday

Starting this Wednesday multiple streets will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

Those streets include: 8th Street North from 20th to 22nd Avenue North, 8th Street North at 12th Avenue North, and 12th Street North from 33rd to 37th Avenue North.

These lane reductions will be happening because of utility work in the area and will last until this Thursday, August 23rd.

Sauk Rapids Man Beaten And Robbed Early Sunday Morning

Early Sunday morning St. Cloud Police were called to the St. Cloud Hospital for a man who said that he had been robbed and beaten. The victim, a 27-year-old man from Sauk Rapids, said he was robbed, punched, and kicked in the head at the 100 block of 6th Avenue South.

According to the police report, a group of black men told the victim that he was at the wrong place at the wrong time right before the assault. The victim had several items taken from him during the assault after being knocked unconscious. The victim received medical treatment for his non-life threatening injuries.

Westbound I-94 Near Alberterville Reduced to One Lane

Travelers should expect delays on Interstate 94 heading west near Albertville tonight until early Tuesday morning.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says the traffic on I-94 westbound will be reduced to one lane through the city of Albertville. The work will be between Highway 241 and County Road 19 during the lane closure.

MN-DOT expects all lanes to be opened by 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. The work is part of a project called a “lane collector-distributor improvement” that will allow westbound traffic on the interstate access to County Road 19 more easily.

Work on this project will be ongoing through December of this year.

St. Cloud Man Facing Charges After Gunshots Fired Saturday

A St. Cloud man was arrested just after midnight Saturday after reportedly firing multiple gunshots at a person after an argument in downtown St. Cloud. Officers say that 25-year-old Cleophas Williams Jr. fired four shots at the victim before fleeing into the Center Square parking ramp and onto 6th Avenue south. Officers were able to catch up to Williams after he was struck by a vehicle on 6th Avenue South.

Williams was arrested and taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and then to the Stearns County Jail. He is being held for court on charges of being a felon in possession of a handgun, fleeing police on foot, reckless discharge of a firearm and for an active misdemeanor warrant from Benton County.

No one was injured by the gunshots. St. Cloud Police were assisted by the Central Minnesota Violent Offenders Task Force and the Avon police department.

A St. Cloud Man Was Arrested After Police Conduct Welfare Check

On Saturday night St. Cloud Police were called to the area of Highway 23 East and 14th Avenue Northeast for a welfare check on 23-year-old Zachary Jay Haaf. According to the police report Haaf was under the influence of alcohol and possibly narcotics during the police investigation.

Haaf started swearing at officers and tried to push away and he was placed in handcuffs. Haaf then attempted to head butt an officer and was placed under arrest and was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital ER to be evaluated and checked on for minor injuries that he had sustained on his own in the back of the squad car. During the drive to the ER Haaf made multiple threats on the officers’ family’s lives and he also was threatening to the kill the officer. No officer was hurt during the incident.

Haaf is being charged with disorderly conduct and 4th degree assault.

Car Accident Sends Two To Hospital

A Wednesday afternoon car accident in St. Cloud resulted in one man and a child being taken to the St. Cloud Hospital. The accident happened about 2:20 p.m. at the intersection of West St. Germain and 14th Avenue South.

A vehicle driven by a 37-year-old Sartell woman was traveling eastbound on West St. Germain collided with a vehicle driven by 31-year-old Roland Peters Gonletuo of Brooklyn Center at the intersection. He and his juvenile passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The police say witness statements and evidence at the scene show Gonletuo did not yield right of way. He also did not have proof of insurance.

Highway 10 Lane Closures Begin On Monday

Drivers may encounter delays as westbound Highway 10 will be reduced to a single lane between Sherburne County Road 15 and 168th Street in Big Lake. The lane closures are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning on Monday, August 20th and lasting until Thursday, August 30th.

The closures are needed as crews repair curb, gutters, ditches and other infrastructure that washed out during this summer’s heavy rains.

Four Vehicles Involved In Read End Collision On Wednesday

On Wednesday afternoon St. Cloud Police were called to the 500 block of 1st Street North for a motor vehicle accident that had involved four vehicles. The police investigation revealed that the four vehicles had been involved in a rear end collision.

32-year-old Chad Allen Marchand of St. Cloud was cited for inattentive driving, no proof of insurance and expired registration and 23-year-old Areit Odol of St. Cloud was taken to the St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Two Men Arrested After Business Robbery

Two men are in jail after one allegedly went into a business wearing a ski mask and stole cash from the cash register. This happened on Wednesday afternoon at the 500 block of 25th Avenue North where St. Cloud Police were called to. According to the police report, after the man wearing the ski mask stole the cash he left and got into a van. The van was later found by the Sartell Police Department and was followed to Wal-Mart.

With the help of the Sartell Police, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Cloud Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit, the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force and Wal-Mart Loss Prevention officers were able to identify the vehicle as the van used for the robbery and took the two men into custody.

Police arrested 31-year-old Robert Lemar Neely of St. Cloud for aiding and abetting aggravated robbery for being the driver of the van. Officers also arrested 41-year-old Rayvon Dahshon Lee of St. Cloud for aggravated robbery. The cash that was stolen during the robbery was found and both Lee and Neely are being held in the Stearns County Jail where they are being held for court.


Counterfeit American Express Travelers Checks Passed in St. Cloud

St. Cloud police are investigating counterfeit American Express travelers checks being used at an area business. The complaint came in from a local business Tuesday that a person had used four $100 travelers checks. There may be more being passed at area stores and police are advising merchants to be careful when accepting travelers checks. They suggest calling the issuing company to verify they are legitimate.

The police report did not indicate what businesses were affected by the counterfeit currency.

Man Arrested on Felony Domestic Assault Charges

A 50-year-old St. Cloud man is facing felony domestic assault charges after being arrested Wednesday night. St. Cloud police arrested Michael Harvey Notch after the assault was reported in the 2900 block of Maine Prairie Road around 10:00p.m.

Police say Notch threatened to kill the mother of his 2 year old and 5 year old son and then choked the 29-year-old victim around the neck. Police found the victim outside when they arrived, she told them she was in fear for her life and for her children.

Notch is being held in the Stearns County Jail on felony domestic assault and felony terroristic threats charges.

Man Arrested After Reported Domestic Assault

On Monday night St. Cloud Police were called to the Anna Maries Women’s Shelter for a report of a domestic assault which had happened in the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue Southeast earlier in the day.

According to the police report, the victim, a 27-year-old woman from Sauk Rapids was assaulted by her boyfriend, 31-year-old Matthew Thomas Bellanger from Sauk Rapids. Bellanger also stole items from the victim’s vehicle.

Bellanger was arrested for felony domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor theft. He was taken to the Benton County Jail where he is being held for court.

 Waite Park Man Allegedly Aims Handgun at Woman in Car Next To Him

A Waite Park man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly aiming a handgun at two people in a car next to him. 28-year-old Brent Philippi is being held in the Stearns County jail awaiting charges.

According to the report released by police chief David Bentrud the incident happened just before 5:30p.m. on 2nd Street South. According to the man and woman who called police, they were waiting to make a left turn onto Waite Avenue when a Philippi pulled up next to them. One of the victims made a comment about his “nice car” and they say he spit on the woman through an open car window. The victims say he then pointed a handgun equipped with a laser sight in the face of the woman.

A Waite Park police officer located and pulled Philippi over and arrested him without incident. Police did find a handgun with a laser sight in his car. He’s facing charges of 2nd degree assault and making terroristic threats. The victims, who were not injured, told the officers they did not know the suspect and have not seen him before.
