This past weekend was a hit for the Huskies as they were able to sweep both double headers defeating the Wayne State Wildcats Saturday and the University of Minnesota-Duluth Sunday. On Saturday Saint Cloud was able to keep the Wildcats offense silent with Saint Cloud winning 5-0 in game one and 8-1 in game two. The Huskies received a tremendous effort from Scott Lieser throwing a seven innings shutout using just 67 pitches while striking out six batters. It was the Husky bats jumping to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with all the runs in that inning coming with 2 outs. Both Eric Loxtercamp and Steve Rindelaub had triples in the game.

In game number two it was again a great effort from all aspects. Senior Captain Phil Imholte reached base four times, stealing two bases and also adding two runs. Garrett Fischer added two hits, with Karl Sorensen adding an RBI triple as well. It was Kyle Fischer on the bump for game two pitching five innings allowing just two hits and one run with four strikeouts. Saint Cloud out scored Wayne State 13-1 in the double header.

On Sunday night Saint Cloud took on the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs in a double header with the Huskies winning 5-0 in the first one and won a tight one in game two 3-1. In game 1 Junior Chris Kubitz was dynamite, pitching five shutout innings striking out seven batters and allowing just three hits. Karl Sorensen drove in two runners and Sean Boreman added two hits with an RBI in the contest as well.

Game two of the series was a nail biter, as it was the Bulldogs getting on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Jimmy Hook of the bulldogs drove in John Meyer for the games first run. UMD held the lead with Kyle Fritz of UMD holding the husky bats quiet as Saint Cloud only registered one hit in the first four innings. After the Bulldogs handed it over to their bullpen, the Huskies took advantage of the ineffective pen of UMD using six different pitchers to finish the final three innings. In the fifth inning it was Mike Jurgella leading things off with a double, after both of the two husky batters were retired. Saint Cloud continued its two out magic and after walks to both Garret Fischer and Phil Imholte, the bases were loaded for Eric Loxtercamp who was able to drive in both Jurgella and Fichser. However the inning ended with Imholte being tagged out at third. Cory Fitzgerald started the game on the mound in game two allowing just one run in his four innings of work. But it was the work of Reese Gregory out of the bullpen that was the story for Saint Cloud. He pitched three innings of shutout baseball striking out four batters. Duluth was able to load the bases in the last half of the seventh but Gregory kept it cool and was able to get John Meyer of Duluth to fly out to left to end the game. Saint Cloud is now 6-1 on the season and is back at Mall of America field this Saturday against division one, University of North Dakota first pitch is at 7:45am.
