Both Basketball Teams Advance

The SCSU women’s basketball team faced off Wednesday night in Halenbeck Hall with Southwest Minnesota State. It was the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health tournament. The Huskies were dominant in the game winning by a score of 72-47 to improve their record to 19-8. Sam Price and Amanda Wagner both posted double digit point totals in the victory.
Up next the Huskies move to the quarterfinal round of play. SCSU will play host to Winona State on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Earlier this season the Huskies and the Warriors battled into overtime when the Huskies fell 69-71.
The men’s basketball team also participated in the NSIC/Sanford Health tournament on Wednesday evening. The Huskies faced off with the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul. It was a battle that featured the Golden Bears taking over the lead in second half and a tied score three separate times in the final two and a half minutes. The Huskies were able to bounce back and regain the lead before the final buzzer rang to advance to the next round of play with a 95-90 final score. Three Huskies scored in the double digits in the win; Shaun Jensen, Connor Niehaus and Kevin Levandoski. Levandoski netted his career high 30 points thanks to eight rebounds and four stea.s It also made a career high five three-point baskets.
SCSU men’s basketball team is currently ranked #7 in the NCAA Division II Central Region rankings and will host quarterfinal action on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies will face off against the Peacocks of Upper Iowa University on Saturday at 4 p.m.
