BREAKING: Coyotes Sign SCSU's Mike Lee
03/29/2012 - 4:05 AM

St. Cloud State is losing another player to the NHL. Junior goaltender Mike Lee has signed a three-year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes, the team announced today. Lee will forego his senior season at SCSU to sign with team that drafted him in the third round in 2009.
Rumors were rampant this morning about SCSU losing a "key player" via our Sports Directors Zack Fisch and Dave Overlund on Twitter. Turns out that key player was Lee, who missed a great deal of the past season with a lower body injury, only to return and lead SCSU to a Final Five bid.
Over three years at SCSU, Lee played 74 games for the Huskies, with a record of 32-29-9, a 2.59 GAA and a .919 SV%. Lee was the goaltender for SCSU's first NCAA win in 2010 vs Northern Michigan and was a member of the gold medal winning Team USA in the 2010 IIHF WJC.
Lee is the second player to depart SCSU this offseason. SCSU lost junior David Eddy to the Calgary Flames last week. With the loss of Lee, and the graduation of Nate Hardy, Ryan Faragher and Joe Phillippi are the only two goalies on SCSU's roster. Faragher played the majority of the season for SCSU while Lee was hurt and was strong in goal. He went 9-11-3, with a 2.78 GAA, and a .915 SV% in his first year at SCSU.
