BSU Beavers Take Three Points From Men's Hockey

Bemidji State rolled into the National Hockey Center this past weekend and handed the St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey team its first home loss and took three points from the Huskies in a WCHA series. The two teams skated to a 6-6 tie Friday night, and BSU got the victory Saturday by a score of 3-1.
Friday saw SCSU lose two goal leads twice in the game. The Huskies lead 3-1 at one point in the first period, and chased starting goaltender Dan Bakala from the game. However, the Beavers roared back and took a 4-3 lead in the second period. Ben Hanowski tied the game with his second goal of the night towards the end of the second period to tie the game. St. Cloud came out firing in the third period and got goals from Travis Novak and Jordy Christian to take another two goal lead at 6-4. However BSU again scratched and clawed their way back to tie the game at six. Novak and Andrew Prochno had three points for SCSU in the tie. Ryan Faragher allowed six goals on 25 shots.
Saturday saw the Huskies strike first only 3:25 into the first frame. After notching his first NCAA goal the night before, Nick Oliver scored for SCSU to give the Huskies an early lead. However, that was the only goal SCSU would get in the game. The Beavers would score the next three, and despite being outshot by SCSU by a total of 34-14, BSU won the game 3-1.
With the loss SCSU falls to 6-8-4 on the season and 4-5-3 in the WCHA. The Huskies are off this weekend, but will return to action at home in two weeks for a series against Denver. For updates on the Men’s Hockey team, remember to check us out on Twitter.
