The SCSU women’s hockey team was just over two minutes away from upsetting the University of Minnesota Saturday afternoon. A pair of late goals by the Gophers spoiled a Husky victory. The Huskies maintained the lead from the start of the game thanks to an early goal in the first period by Abby Ness. Molli Mott scored midway through the second period to make it 2-0. The Gophers crawled back in the third period and extended their unbeaten streak to 61 games. Saturday’s game ended by a score of 4-3.
Freshman, Lauren Hespenheide, has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week for her performance. She had points in both games of the series, charting an assist on Friday and notching the goal that made it 3-2 in Saturday's game. It was the first points of her Husky career.
Minnesota also took the victory from SCSU Friday 4-1. The Huskies travel to Vail, CO this upcoming weekend for the Vail Tournament.
