The #8 ranked SCSU men’s hockey team will host the #1 University of Minnesota this weekend for the last time in conference play. The Gophers are coming off a bye weekend while the Huskies will look to keep the ball rolling after a sweep in Bemidji. SCSU Co-Captain Drew LeBlanc earned WCHA recognition for his two assists and goal in the weekend sweep. LeBlanc leads the nation in assists with 30 on the season and is the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week. This marks the third week in a row that one of the Huskies have had a WCHA honor. SCSU freshmen continue to shine as well; Jonny Brodzinski notched his 13th goal of the season on Saturday to extend his win point streak to 13 games. Goaltender Ryan Faragher was also outstanding on the weekend stopping 45 of 46 shots.
The Huskies have not lost a WCHA game since December 7th and currently sit in the top spot in the conference with 29 points. The Gophers are five points behind in a tie for third place and have two games in hand.
The games mark the last time the teams will meet in regular season conference play before parting ways to join new conferences next season. Listen to all the action on the KVSC Sports Stream.
