Huskies Split in Miami

The #4 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team suffered their first Friday road loss of the season when they fell to Miami University 4-3. The Huskies got on the board first with a power play goal by Jonny Brodzinski. Miami tied things up soon after with a power play goal of their own to end play in the first period. The Redhawks added two more goals in the second period making it 3-1 before Joe Rehkamp scored making it a one-goal game again. Miami added another goal in the first half of the third period to make it a 4-2 game with just under fifteen minutes to play. Nic Dowd added a power play goal to make things closer with one minute and eight seconds remaining. Despite a huge last minute effort by SCSU they were unable to tie things up, falling 4-3 to the University of Miami.
SCSU rebounded on Saturday with a big 3-0 win, starting things just as they did on Friday, scoring first. The Huskies got two goals on the board in the first period thanks to Jimmy Murray and David Morley. Morley's goal came on the power play. That would be the only scoring in the game until the third period when Nic Dowd added his second power play goal of the weekend making it a 3-0 game. SCSU held on for the win and goaltender Ryan Faragher earned a shut out victory, making 33 saves.
Just two more regular season series remain and the Huskies are currently tied on the top of conference standings with the University of North Dakota. North Dakota will visit the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center this upcoming weekend for what is sure to be an intense showdown. Listen to the action on 88.1 FM KVSC on Friday and Saturday night.
