Huskies Split with Beavers
11/16/2009 - 10:41 AM
After not scoring a goal for two straight games, including Friday's 1-0 shutout loss to Bemidji State, the Saint Cloud State women’s hockey team erupted for five goals as they defeated the Beavers 5-2 to earn a split in the series. Senior forward Holly Roberts netted her second career hat trick and junior goaltender Ashley Nixon stopped 21 of 23 Beaver shots as the Huskies played well on both ends of the ice. Nixon started consecutive games for the first time all season and backed up the coaches’ decision with her play, as she saved 56 of 59 shots on the weekend. Other players contributing offensively for Saint Cloud were seniors Caitlin Hogan and Meaghan Pezon, who each chipped in a goal in the Saturday victory.
SCSU is now 4-8 overall and 3-7 in the always tough WCHA conference. The Huskies will be at home this coming weekend as they take on sixth-ranked Wisconsin. Both games are 2:07 p.m. starts.
